Nowadays it has become very popular to clean with home-made detergents. The Internet is flooded with recipes for different cleaning solutions and tips on how to use them. In my opinion it is good that there is so much information on this topic, because people have to know how to avoid the use of toxic and dangerous store products.
In this post I’m going to present to your attention a recipe for a powder carpet cleaner, which removes bad odours. I learned it from a professional, working in a carpet cleaning London company, so you can trust it. Here it is.
Crumble the bay leaves and mix them with a couple of handfuls of the dry potpourri. Add equal parts of baking soda and cornstarch (about ½ cup of each) and put the mixture into some container with a cover. Shake it well, so to mix the ingredients well and you have your powder carpet cleaning solution.
Sprinkle the solution all over the carpet and leave it for a night. Vacuum in the morning and there will be no sign of odours. The potpourri and the bay leaves will leave a very pleasant flowery scent on your carpet, and the baking soda and cornstarch will absorb the bad smells from it. This mixture can be also used as an air refresher. Just leave a cup full of it in the smelly room and wait until it works.
This is a very simple and easy-to-prepare carpet cleaner, so take advantage of it. Stop using store-bought deodorisers and air-refreshers. They are polluting the air in your house and endangering your health.
